Mission From MaRS: Taking Climate Action

As I post this video from my speech 12 months ago on Feb 7, 2020 at the Canadian Club, it is hard to remember that there was a time before the COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent black swan economic catastrophe and the global reckonlng on anti-black and systemic racism that has swept our organizations and our communities.  But in re-watching this speech, I find that the urgency to consider our future … a future which will be determined by our reaction to climate change to be even more important … even more of an imperative.

The New World and the New Economy will not resemble the business-as-usual world that we came from 12 months ago.  If we’ve learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that we cannot let a crisis go to waste.  We must use this opportunity and this window of time to anticipate and mitigate the many future crises that are yet to come from climate change.  If we do, we build a new liveable world for ourselves, one that we can leave our children and their children after them.  The alternative is NOT an option.

Take a listen …
